Our guest speaker on Friday, June 14th was Peter Schlegel talking about Support for Educators. Peter is a Program Specialist for the Northwest Educational Service, District 189, headquartered in Anacortes. There are several ESD's around the State and they offer support for public school educators and staff. Peter's presence continues with another in our annual "State of the School District" series. That series began twelve years ago when Amy Beth Cook talked to about the School District and her first year as Superintendent. Other programs highlighting the School District followed.
Peter's role with ESD is to provide pre-employment transition services for older youth that have an Individual Education Planned or a documented disabilities. These services include monthly workshops, job site tours and paid internships. His organization partners with organizations like the Snohomish County Boys and Girls Clubs, Cedar Grove Compost, Symmetria Integrated Medical, located here in Lake Stevens where youth gain valuable employment skills. This year alone, Peter and his team has conducted 40 job site tours with students.
