Our guest speaker on May 6th was Captain Mark Lakamp of Naval Station Everett. The community has been very helpful over the past 22 years. The base opened in 1994. Team Everett includes Commander Destroyer, Squadron 9, 6 guided missiles, one in Everett, San Diego and Hawaii with medical and dental personnel.
The USS Shoup is currently assigned to Everett. Currently undergoing exercise to obtain their certification. The USS Shoup has encountered some maintenance issues which allows the personnel to hone their skills, education and advancements. The USS Momsen supplies fuel without landing. Deployment certification attained. While under deployment Naval Base Everett takes care of their families. In Lake Stevens there are 141 houses and similar housing in Marysville, Mt. Vernon including the Smokey Point Commissary. Key to Everett's success in securing Naval Base Everett is its deep port.
Naval Base Everett is getting ready to welcome USS Gridley, USS Kidd, USS Sampson and the USS Ralph Johnson. Other missions by the base include the areas of Jim Creek Naval Radio Station with very low radio frequencies and 5,000 acres in old growth forest. Personnel includes 2,700 men and women with a potential of up to 4,000 to 7,000 when the aircraft carrier USS Nimitz returns with over $43 million in annual salaries. The Nimitz will be back in Everett 2018-19 because it is currently under maintenance. Currently working on 20 year plan. One of their main objectives is LEED Gold Citation with cuts in energy by 30% and another 25% in the next few years.
We want to thank Captain Lakamp and Naval Base Everett's men and women for their service to our county, our community and the State of Washington.
