Our guest speakers on Friday, February 7th were Rich Good, who was recently appointed Interim Scout Executive, and Scott Kelly, Vice President of Fundraising for the Mount Baker Council, Scouting America, and the Scoutmaster of Troop 91 in Snohomish. Rich has 45 years in the non-profit sector, and previously served as the CEO or executive director of five non-profit organizations including three YMCA's, and a Chamber of Commerce, and was the Scout Executive of the Gamehaven Scout Council in southeastern Minnesota from 2000 to 2008. Scott is a proactive planner and investment manager who is active in scouting. They joined us to talk about several initiatives underway at the Mount Baker Council.
Boy Scouts of America is changing its name to Scouting America. Rich commented that the pandemic wiped out the Cub Scouts because they met indoors. The numbers are beginning to grow. Several projects are underway including the Fire Mountain Camp which celebrated 50 years in 2022. Rich said that the goal is to turn Fire Mountain Camp into a community facility largely because of the large size commercial kitchen. Looking for event sponsors.
Scott continues in scouting after his son aged out. His son received his Eagle Scout award in 2019 and is currently an Assistant Scout Leader. Scott is involved in scouting programs that teach and equip young boys to become stewards in the community.
