School District Update

At the regular Club Meeting, January 9, 2009, we had a visit and presentation by Dr. David Burgess, Superintendent of the Lake Stevens School District. He was accompanied by Arlene Hulten, Director of Communications & Community Services with the LSSD. Dr. Burgess gave us an update on the construction levy approved by voters a few years ago.

Dr. Burgess reviewed the costs of all of this modernization. The School District's portion was $65.5 million, the state was able to contribute $27.8 million.
He concluded his presentation with a review of the academic achievements of the students in the District. The LSSD outscores all other school districts in Snohomish County based on 20 WASL score indicators. We nearly outscore all other elementary schools in the County and we have far fewer kids dropping out of high school and a larger percentage graduate from high school. Finally, two schools were named Washington State Office of the Superintendent of Pulic Instruction Schools of Distinction. Gratualtions Glenwood and Sunnycrest Elementaries!
