Reach Within to Embrace Humanity

Jane Helten, District Governor was our guest last Friday, October 21st. If you missed this meeting, you really missed an awe-inspiting discussion about Rotarians "Reaching to Embrace Humanity", how it impacted her personally and what it means to the world we live in. Before her discussion started, Jane presented special pure gold Rotary pins to Dave DeLorm, Scott Smith and Gary O'Rielly. Look within to see that our basic needs are met for us and for others and reach out to humanity in general like we have done with Monterrico, high school schlorships and Bikes for Tykes. Vocational service adds to the whole ethics endeavors. Really, really look at what we have created in the world because vocational service is the avenue to excell. "Think about the first time you came to a Rotary meeting," Jane asked.  Did we join because of programs like Monterrico or Bikes for Tykes?  

Jane told us about Easter Seals being started by Paul Harris with the help of another Rotarian. Involvement in fundraisers as a way to see Rotary in action. Personally, she talked about adopting a child with many health issues, several surgeries over the years, walking with braces and the need for special schools. The doctor put the parents in touch with Easter Seals who took care of all of the medical expenses. All of this because two Rotarians found a way through the Rotary Foundation to give to Easter Seals. Wow, you could have heard a pin drop it was so emotional and energy charged about a loving experience. 

Lastly, Jane wanted us to Set Sail to Semiahmoo to learn more about Rotary and all of its benefits. Register early, take advantage of "pay as you go" incentives to attend the conference. Thanks Jane for being such a caring Rotarian and affecting all of our lives.
