Dave Brooks, CEO of Providence Health and Services Northwest, wrapped up our five programs on Health Care in the United States and the impact on our area with his presentation on March 16th. Dave started his presentation by acknowledging that errors and mistakes have been made in healthcare over the past twenty years by letting health care get away from all of us. He felt that the more the community is involved in healthcare discussion and delivery the better the services.
He divided his presentation into four areas: 1). New Medical Tower; 2). Patient care; 3) Expanded Services; 4). and the Providence and Swedish affiliation.
New Cymbaluk Medical Tower: Monumental project cost over $500 million dollars. Included in the cost were $60 million on clinical technology, and $20 million for diagnostic imaging. The new tower is easily one of the best and finest in the country. To have a unique medical facility, you engage patients, their families, clinicians and doctors as part of the design of the clinical services. Providence has the busiest Emergency Department in the state having served over 100,000 patients annually vs. Harborview Medical center in Seattle servicing around 70,000. The Diagnostic Imaging center is on the 2nd Floor with the surgical services two floors above the Imaging Center. Their goal was to intermix services all in one place and they have accomplished that goal. Providence is organized around the disease issues which is a better way to deliver services.
Patient care has adopted the more traditional type facility with a caregiver zone, a family/visitor zone and patient zone. Gone are the limited hours of visitation in favor of 24/7 family and friends visitations. Friends and family are an intregal part of patient recovery. Coming soon is the new Mother Joseph Concourse with a new cafeteria and other services.
Expanded services is their way of focusing on other issues such as out-patient like hyperbaric medicine services and wound healing plus cranial, spine, joint and vascular care centers. Providence Medical Group has Primary Care facilities in Mill Creek, Clearview and Lynnwood.
The recent news about a Providence and Swedish affiliation will bring about a much stronger medical community and delivery of services rather than being in competition with one another. Another amazing and outstanding program for all of our members.
