Our topic this week was Physical Therapy. Joining us this week was Shannon O'Kelley (pictured), President of IRG and Alex Zitnik. Integrated Rehabilitation Group has 36 locations and 400 employees throughout the Puget Soound Region. The closest facility to Lake Stevens is in Granite Falls. IRG is a full spectrum, evidence-based outpatient Physical and Hand Therapy Organization. Their niche services include women's/men's health, vestibular rehbilitation, lymphederma management, holistic health, myofascial decompression, custom splinting, aquatic therapy and TPI golf enhancement.
The discussion included members using some exercises to improve health while sitting for prolonged periods or taking a brief break to improve your days work. The difference between a Physical Therapist and a Occupational Therapist were mentioned. A physical therapist rehabilitates patients using training and exercise to prevent future injuries and assisting patients in resuming their daily activities. A occupational therapist uses treatments to develop, recover or maintain daily skills and improve basic motor functions while helping clients have independent productive lives.
Exercise and the effects on the body as well as noting that the most effective exercise for improving heart health was aerobic exercises. Other topics included osteoporosis on bone health, muscle health as well as digestive health. Brain health was another topic given during the presentation by Shannon O'Kelley, who is a member of the Rotary Club of Mill Creek. Very fun and informational based presentation for all of us. We almost had a Irish wake with O'Kelley, O'Brien and O'Rielly at the meeting on Friday.
