One of the sparkplugs behind the Monroe Miracle League is Ric Carlson, Past President and member of the Rotary Club of Monroe who will be the featured speaker at the January 8th meeting of our Club. Many consider the Miracle League to be Monroe's answer to the Field of Dreams.

About one million dollars was raised to build Rotary Field in Monroe that is a handicapped accessible field with all-weather turf designed specifically for players with disabilities.  It will be the first of its kind in the region.

The Miracle League was formed as a youth baseball league about seven years ago for children with special needs. The Miracle League started in the southeast. One of the Monroe Rotary members saw a TV story about it and thought they should start a league in Monroe.  In the Miracle League, everyone gets a hit and everyone wears a jersey with a number.

Come hear the story about a "Field of Dreams" built in Monroe where families have come together and share a common bond. Some of these kids have serious health issues and so parents are able to talk to each other, give each other support for a really worthy cause.
