A very interesting and intriguing program this past Friday as Christina and Ryan Hillsberg talk about their book, License to Parent drawing on their careers in the CIA. How their careers as former CIA intelligence officers, now in the private sector took their CIA training to raise their five children.
Both spoke of their careers in the CIA and how they met on a field tour, married and used their CIA training to help raise their children in a way that would make them aware of their surroundings when out in public or even at home. Operations Officers/Intelligence Officer best describes Ryan's job in the CIA. Ryan speaks French, Danish and Portuguese and spent most of his time in Europe. Christina was assigned to Africa based on her studies in Linguistics, Swahili and African Studies. Her initial interview was with the Peace Corps and the CIA. She started as a Intelligence Analysis and when on to the Operations side of the CIA where she met Ryan. They talked about numerous scenarios involving their early careers with the CIA. One example was the term "Get off the X" is something that they teach at the CIA Farm. X = danger. Very interesting book.
