Our guest speaker on Friday, April 28th was Representative Sam Low, a member of our Club and a Past President. Sam is the State Representative for District 39 serving his first term in Olympia and a County Council member as well, serving southeast Snohomish County.
Sam has never missed a vote on the County Council while serving in the state legislature during his first year with the legislature just concluding their session on April 23rd. During his first session, Sam worked on several Secretary of State bills as well as introducing some of his own. He passed two bills, one being the Medal of Valor which the Governor signed last week. Another bill he authored was the Organ Transport bill allowing vehicles to have sirens on their vehicles to transport organs from the airport to the hospital.

There are 21 new members in the House. That's a lot of new members. Hundreds of hundreds of emails each day.  Sam answers all his own emails even though he has staff who could answer for him.  Sam secured funds for the Lake Stevens Food Bank of over $600K including over $800K from County, Frontier Park, for a Pickle Ball court, funding for the Historical Society, Cedarwood Center ($1.1 million to renovate the old rec center). Phenomenally successful year for a brand new first term State Representative. One of the two committees assignments he has are the House Transportation Committee and the House Rules Committee.
