Our guess speaker on Friday, May 2nd was Tom Cadwallader from the Lake Stevens Slugs Chess Team which started in 2021 and met at their bakery at the time, Sweet Life Bakery. Tom's passion for chess started in the 5th grade. Tom and his chess club have worked with other chess clubs in the area.
They currently meet at Haggen's in the food court on Thursday at 6 pm and on Sunday mornings. They participate in various regional chess tournaments. Chess Club membership is free. They will participate in an Open Tournament on August 23rd which is an all day tournament. The Lake Stevens Slugs Chess Tournament is service focused. Their baker is still alive and active.
Tom and his family moved to Lake Stevens in 2017 with their six children. Tom has been employed at Fedex for 20 years and his wife is a professional baker. They started Sweet Life Baker around three years ago.
