Upon arriving at the YMCA Camp Casey in Coupeville on Friday, June 6th, we were greeted by Jennifer Willows, SVP/Chief Development Officer for the YMCA of Snohomish County. During our tour, we were joined by Payton Tune, President & CEO of the YMCA of Snohomish County.
YMCA camping in the United States began in 1895 with the establishment of Camp Dudley in New York which was the first known summer camp in the country. Camp Casey is nestled on 85 pristine waterfront acres on Whidbey Island this former U.S. Army site was built in 1890. The WW1 site and its buildings built by the U.S. Army is structurally sound with great bones but needs updating on the outside and inside on barracks and other buildings on the Camp Casey site.
Also, on cite during our visit was Chris Jacobson and 150 employees of Convergint participated in a community service initiative which coincides with his employer's longstanding tradition of closing operations on the first Friday of June to work on a local community project and this year they chose Camp Casey. Also, present was Brian Lewandowski and his Westrock Company providing assistance as well by painting the outside of the Camp Casey gym/
