Kim Daughtry, President of the Lake Stevens Chamber of Commerce was our guest speaker June 8 talking about the Chamber, its future goals, objectives and the changing role of the organization. Daughtry talked about living in the greatest community and the goal of raising the Chamber in the eyes of the community. The Chamber is a community organization and its primary purpose is service for the members. Provide more programs for employers such as the recent Homeland Security Seminar is defining each companies hiring practices of new employees.

The Chamber should be in lock step with the City. As a former Chamber manager in my view, it is absolutely key for the Chamber and the City to be working together in a united front for the betterment of the city and surrounding area. Another example that Daughtry cited was the need to involve the Chamber in the "Leader in Me" concept at the local school level as a grant type function rather than the high school scholarships program which at times has been underfunded in the past few years due to the economy.

Other activities that will be bigger and better this year, besides AquaFest is OctoberFest and the Health and Safety Fair which occured this past Saturday. OctoberFest will include the Davis Carnival, a beer garden at the North Cove Park along with a wine garden. The root beer grarden was a big hit last year as well as the little kid carnival. Food vendors and a German touring group with audience participation will be a big highlight.

The Chamber is dedicated to the community and needs everyones support as they enter a new period of direction and growth.
