Our guest January 24th was Gary Hauff, Regional Director serving Snohomish County for Junior Achievement. One of the most important goals of Junior Achievement is the Economic Benefits of Increasing the High School Graduation Rate for Public School Students. Results in the public school system indicate that 47% of high school drop-outs state that school isn't interesting for them.

 

 
Junior Achievement wants to correct that issue by offering alternatives in school that will make learning more interesting based on the Best Economic Stimulus Package for high schoolers is a high school diploma. Junior Achievement attempts to bridge the gap by developing the platform to emphasize Youth, Economics and Education as the three pillars of the key to success for high school students. They offer JA Day, JA Finance Park and Job Shadow as important teaching aids in a child's educational development at the high school level.

Gary Hauff wants Rotarians to raise the level of awareness in Lake Stevens. JA wants to recruit volunteers to spend 35-45 minutes per week for five weeks working with children in elementary and high school. Rotary or their members can help by providing monetary gifts to JA to continue their program.

Today's program continues our series about business. Gary Hauff is currently the Regional Director in Snohomish County for Junior Achievement of Washington. He has been a volunteer for JA for the past eight years and served on the Board of Directors for two years before coming on staff in April 2011. Prior to Junior Achievement Gary was the General Manager of the Snohomish County Business Journal which was part of the Everett Herald newspapers which are now owned by Sound Publishing.
