Marty Pease, a member of the Rotary Club of La Conner, speaking to our Club on Friday, July 19th, about the International Projects Alliance. The IPA is a consortium of several Clubs in District 5050 that work together on projects outside of the United States and Canada.

Marty joined the La Conner Rotary in 2016 and immediately launched into numerous activities that supported the local club, the La Conner community, District 5050, and Rotary International. She has demonstrated a life dedicated to "Service Above Self"; and she exemplifies what it means to be a Rotarian. On the District and International Service levels, Marty has become very involved with the multi-club International Project Alliance (IPA.) They work together to fund humanitarian projects in and around the town of Copán Ruinas, Honduras. Marty traveled with an IPA team to Copán assisting with numerous projects that benefited local communities and children in concert with IPA and Copán jointly determined goals and objectives.

Peter Martin is with the Fidalgo Island Rotary and is one of the founding members of the IPA which was formed in the spring of 2014, and comprises six clubs from Skagit and surrounding counties. The IPA plans to fund several small projects each year, so that service opportunities will arise at different times and require a diversity of skills. Larger projects will involve District and Global Grants from The Rotary Foundation.

Marty and Peter presented overviews of the IPA along with a description of the activities of the IPA that hit all of Rotary’s areas of focus. They will pay particular attention to school programs and to Rapid Development, which helps villages get out of poverty.  They will also provide information on how our Club could become involved. Here is some more information about the IPA.
