Highland Elementary School Playground Project - Pictured above are Past President Laurie Westover of the Rotary Club of Lake Stevens who presented a check for $14,500 for the playground project to Tanya Murray, Playground Committee Chair and Nicole Beck, Treasurer of the Highland Elementary School PTA. A little over a year ago a representative of the school's PTA approached our club requesting help in funding an additional playground at the school. The current playground is over 20 years old. Just a few weeks later the world was in Covid-19 cover.
But, that didn't stop the fundraising at the school or at our club once we decided to financially support the project. The cost of the new playground equipment pictured above was just over $72,000. Rotary funding was a combination of Fund a Cause from our annual Corks & Kegs fundraising event, our Club Endowment, and a matching grant from Rotary District 5050 and a few Club members who stepped up with personal contributions.
The rendering of the new playground equipment above will be just across from the current playground. The beauty of this project according to Tanya and Nicole is that the new playground will be inclusive for children with mobility issues, a merry-go-round along with music elements. There are still other elements at work with respect to the new playground that our Club will assist the Highland Elementary School and PTA with once the plan is developed and approved.
