Everett Stealth - Our Community Series

The past several weeks, our programs have focused on the pro-sports teams in Everett and Friday, September 28, 2013 was no exception. David Takata, President along with Regan Olson and Chris Kelley gave an in debth view of the Everett Sealth Lacross team from inside and out of the organization. The presentations followed a similar pattern to the other pro sports teams in Everett. Each was involved deeply in the community and each had committed owners. Takata commented that they were fortunate to have an owner who was very interested in working with local non-profit organizations including local youth programs to assist them in their fundraising efforts.
For instance, each game they work with a non-profit and in the case of the Children's Museum they raised over $5,000. The pro-teams in Everett have a huge impact on the local economy, the community and the surrounding area. From the business side of the Everett Stealth the running of a sports team requires the high fixed cost of the sport to fill Comcast arena with bodies. There are eight home games and eight away games each year. There are ten teams chasing the chanpionship each year. The first year in Everett, the Stealth won the championship.
Lacross is the fastest growing sport in the nation. There are one million lacross players in the United States according to Takata. The Mariners attendance is down over 144,356 and theatres are experiencing their lowest attendance in 25 years. Early signs for 2013 are very positive. Snohomish County residents account for half of all tickets purchased in 2012. King County buyers represent more than one third of all tickets purchased and British Columbia accounts for another ten percent. Season ticket holders account for forty-one percent. Average ticket price is $18.47. For the 2012 season earlier this year they have sold 31,221 tickets. Revenue remains roughly flat. Marketing has seen a resurgents through social media and mobile is growing rapidly. Twitter has 2,688 followers while Facebook has 14,736 fans.
There are 26 players. The draft was this past Monday in Toronto. Most players came from Canada. There is a players union and the salaries are from $9,000 to $18,000. Right now there are 10 teams in the league which is looking at Vancouver, BC for expansion. The league has been around for 27 years. Another great program.
