District Governor Visit

Last Friday, Sean Hogan and his wife Carol made an official visit to our Club as the District Governor for 2012-2013. Did you know that Sean was born in 1960 in Westminster BC? And in 1974 Sean visited Ireland and kissed the Blarney Stone? You would think he was Irish....Oh, no he's a LAWYER. Plus, he is a computer GEEK.
In 1986 Sean visited his first Rotary Club and became a member in 1987. For the next 13 years, Sean spent his Rotary time in a leadership capacity. Sean has been to our club many times before and commented that he likes coming to our Club because we have fun. I didn't see our Seargeant of Arms fining the District Governor. What's with that David? He commented that "I'm from Rotary government and I'm here to help you". Oh, does he know the US elections are just around the corner?

Anyway, the focus this year for Sean is on iRotary. Since the day that Sean joined Rotary, he has been a dedicated member of his Club, District 5050 and Rotary International. He bleeds Rotary, just ask him. Firmly commitmented to seeing District 5050 grow during his term. So what is iRotary?
iGeneration embellishes the next generation of membership where the internet and iPhone are key components of communicating about Rotary. iIndividual and you think about Rotary and the vision of Paul Harris, Arch Klumph and Herbert Taylor. Taylor was instrumental in developing the Four Way Test as a standard for every Rotarian past, present and to come. Think of the lives that we have affected.....The Homeless Student grants.
iInternational and you might think of the Seattle Rotary Clubs immunization of Ethiopia. iInspire was the moment when Sean joined Rotary because it was the campaign that Rotary had launched to eradicate POLIO. He gave an example. One of his Club members has a wife who was a teacher and wheel chair bound who came to their Club to speak about the impact of polio on a person. She was the first wheel chair bound person to be accepted into college and study to be a teacher. She commented that her interest came from her father who was a Rotarian who was concerned about how POLIO had affected his daughter. India has been polio free for the past 18 months. Think of it, in one providence alone, they had to immunize 6 million children of all ages each year. Right now there are 120 cases of polio reported world wide this past year. So the fight to totally eradicate POLIO isn't over and the fight must continue.
For Sean, iRotary and new iGenerations was a trip he and Carol made to Kenya to install a computer programs in the schools. Sean spoke of PEACE THROUGH SERVICE which is to solve peace in a useful way by reducing the conflict between people. Sean's goal for District 5050 during his 2012-2013 term is to increase membership in each Club and throughout the District by 10%. Basically, for our CLUB that would mean three new members. Sean spoke out the upcoming October 13th Membership Seminar in Mt. Vernon with a very special guest speaker well known for increasing Rotary memberships. To support the New Generations goaks, continue the support of the Rotary Foundation and Polio Plus. The Rotary Wheel is a symbol which needs to be exposed and explained to the public in general through public relations and ROTARY'S image.
At the conclusion of his comments, Sean presented iRecognition awards to Barbara and Loren for their dedicated work in Rotary. Congratulations to both for a well-deserved honor. Sean and Carol, come back as often as you can and thanks for such a wonderful uplifting Rotary program.
