A duo-program was the highlight of opening of our new 2021 meeting on January 8th. Cynthia Casey's gave a Classification Talk and Lance Morehouse provided a demonstration of a typical Scholarship Program interview were our guest speakers.

Cynthia roots are in the Midwest, having been born in Kansas. Cynthia commented that when they moved to Omaha, Nebraska her dad would have lunch with Warren Buffet occasionally. Her grandfather was a Rotarian in Smith Center, Kansas who never missed a meeting. Her husband is a Rotarian and Edward Jones Financial Services runs in the family. Cynthia in Lake Stevens, her husband in Oak Harbor and her daughter in Stanwood. Another daughter is a pre-med student at UW-Tacoma.

Interesting story on how they chose the west coast. Her husband wanted to live and retire near water. So through a lot of research,  they chose the Anacortes/Oak Harbor area. When they moved, the drive to the west coast was through wind, snow and hail which damaged their car. They have fallen in love with the west coast. The family enjoys trips to Port Townsend and traveling in general.

At some point in time, they would like to buy a boat. Her husband did a lot of sailing on the east coast. Cynthia enjoys riding horses and was actively doing so until Covid-19 stopped all of that.  Looking forward to getting back to horseback riding. Cynthia's specialty is senior financial planning. Safety and security is part of her background for her clients. She will be re-locating her office in the near future and still in Lake Stevens.

Lance interviewed our esteem President Ken as if he were interviewing for a Rotary Club scholarship. Lance did not share the interview questions with Ken in advance of today's meeting.  Lance asked Ken about his Service Related Activities. Ken has been in education for 37 years as a teacher, coach, school principle and now with the School District. The questions were all geared at giving Club Members interested in serving on the Vocational Committee who want to be involved in 2020-2021 High School Senior Scholarship application and interview process.

Other questions involved such topics as "Which of your accomplishments are you most proud of?" and "What was your worst experience?" Lastly, how will you use your education? Lance closed by showing the scoring process.
