Vern Foster was a stalwart in the Lake Stevens Community. His passing is leaving a huge void for the many that know him. His parents, Jim and Betty, started Foster Press in 1977. Vern and Donna took over after a few years. The business will be passed on to their oldest daughter, Maria, when the time comes. Vern and Donna's other three children, Brianne, BJ and Dani help out as well. Many know Jim Foster as the Director of the Lake Stevens Food Bank.

Vern was a Lake Stevens Rotarian for many years including a year as President (2005-2006). He helped on many service projects locally, regionally and internationally. And while a Rotarian he organized cruises as a way to build fellowship amongst members and their families.

Vern also served the Community as a Commissioner for Lake Stevens Fire (aka Snohomish County Fire Protection District #8) from January 1, 2008 through his passing last Friday. He was the current Chair of the Commission. He saw this role as the eyes, ears and voice overseeing the services provided to the residents, guests and visitors to the Fire District by the dedicated personnel and staff of Lake Stevens Fire.

Services for Vern will be held on Saturday, July 13, 2013, 1:00 pm at the Lake Stevens Assembly of God Church, 9805 31st Pl NE in Lake Stevens. That evening at the Evergreen Speedway following the opening ceremonies at 6 pm, there will be a memorial lap with his ashes. As his close friend and former Lake Stevens Rotarian, Don Spiers, said, "Vern loved the races." Foster Press has been a sponsor at the Speedway for years.
