UPDATE: Last week, we raised $850. From Bickford Ford, Ixtapa and the Wexler Family leave us $2,414 short of reaching our $10,000 goal. Please keep contacting individuals and businesses as we countdown to the September 30th DEADLINE.
Don't give up. Keep pushing the button. Each day is a missed opportunity if we don't contact key businesses in the community asking for support and a contribution to the Homeless Student grant program. In Sunday's Everett Herald (08/05) an article stated that the number of homeless students in the state is growing. "The state's large urban counties - Pierce, King, Snohomish and Clark - educated more than half of the 26,000 homeless Washington students counted during the 2010-2011 school year, according to an analysis by the Columbia Legal Services."
Last year, the Lake Stevens School District helped 93 homeless students and the year before that around 113. The number could grow in the coming school year. Everyone in the counties sited above is affected. Any help, no matter how small is a step toward providing these students with a safe education environment. Rather than couch surfing or running on the streets, getting involved in bad situations, the Homeless Student funds will provide a stable environment for these students.
As of Friday (08/03) our club had raised $6,440. To reach our $10,000 goal, we only have to raise another $3,560 by the end of September. However, our Rotary team would like to reach our goal by the end of August. We are a small club mighty in spirit, effort and can do attitude. Thanks for your continuing support and effort.
