Project Ocean Watch

Project Ocean Watch is a multi-year, integrated learning initiative with a unique platform and powerful promise to inspire ocean conservation and cultivate the next generation of ocean stewards.

This ambitious mission will be accomplished via an educational sailing expedition using the 64’ S/V Ocean Watch to explore the rich tapestry of life beneath the waves, how it varies from neighborhood to neighborhood within the sea and why preserving and enhancing this rich tapestry matters to us all.

With a first-of-its-kind Internet of Things (IoT) digital learning platform that leverages new education technology and multiple communication channels, Project Ocean Watch will reach and engage hundreds of thousands of students in classrooms and communities throughout 36 countries in The Americas.

Through compelling storytelling, students will learn first-hand about the fragile and finite nature of our oceans, and more importantly, beinspired to take action.

Mark Schrader is a renowned solo sailor, Mark has twice single-handedly circumnavigated the world and was the first American to singled- handedly circumnavigate the world via the five Southern Capes in 1982-3. He finished the BOC Challenge in 1987, and became its Race Director in 1990-91. Mark was co-founder of the 2009-2010 Around the Americas and Captain of its S/V Ocean Watch for its 13-month expedition. He currently lives in Washington state and is an avid marine conservationist and wildlife advocate.
