Soup Kitchen Busier Than Ever

The Rotary Club of Bishop Rotarians Larry Clark, Pat Nahin, Mike Gable, James Wilson and Jody Cutler helped cook and serve lunch to 70 people Wednesday, October 21st. Supervising the lunch that day was Roberta Cummings. Roberta said that there has been a big increase in lunches being served up from summer attendance of about 40 people a day to over 65 people a day this fall. James Wilson said one reason he was a Rotarian was to be able to help serve the community and feels that participating in providing lunches for the needy is a truly satisfying experience in help to the community.
The Soup Kitchen was established to provide nourishing lunches to those in need. The Soup Kitchen, located at the United Methodist Center, 205 N. Fowler St. is open Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at noon and typically serves about 40 individuals. In addition to the volunteers of the First United Methodist Church of Bishop, several churches, The Rotary Club of Bishop and groups within the community have joined together to provide this valuable ministry. The Soup Kitchen serves not only the homeless and those in special need, but also those who simply wish to join with others in fellowship.
