At the Rotary Club of Bishop noon meeting Tuesday May 18th Tom Hallenbeck, the club's representative for the Interact club held a "labor auction" for hours of work volunteered from students from Bishop High School.   Fast talking and ever so smooth, Tom Hallenbeck got members to part with $1090.00.  The students will cover the members' committed hours of work in their snack shack during Mule Days Celebration this year.  The money will go to the Interacts club's many charity projects.  Students volunteering their hours to work are Melissa Hoste, Angela Thomczik, Kelli Rowe, Jasmin Casteneda, Brenda Figueroa and Shelby Dolin.

The Rotary Club of Bishop sponsors the Bishop Interact Club which is a community based service club that meets at Bishop Union High School.  Over the past 3 years, the club has raised and donated over $5000.00, with $1000.00 each year being donated for polio eradication.  Other recent international projects where donations were made are wheel chairs for the handicapped, farm animals for a community, water well for a school in India and other water well projects.  There have been many community projects each school year such as a food drive for homeless at Thanksgiving time, a blanket drive, a coat drive, assisting Salvation Army with Bell Ringing between Thanksgiving and Christmas and bleacher sweeps at fair grounds during Mule Days.  Interact's name is a combination of the words "International and action."  With clubs in over 120 countries and geographical areas, Interact is truly a phenomenon.
