Bishop Rotary Foundation Swears in New Board Members

Bishop Rotary met July 13th to elect four members to its Foundation board to help oversee operations in the coming year. The election was held during a Foundation meeting at Whiskey Creek in conjunction with the normal Bishop Rotary meeting. Phil McDowell opened the meeting by announcing that the nominating committee had identified Ed Nahin, Tom Hallenbeck and himself as the candidates to fill respective seats for a new three year term on the Foundation Board. The committee also named Dan Steinhagen as its candidate to fill the remaining two years of Ken Deboy's term. The motion passed by acclamation.
The Bishop Rotary Foundation is a California nonprofit corporation making all contributions tax deductible. Its Board of Directors consists of 11 active members from the Bishop Sunrise Rotary Club and the Rotary Club of Bishop who are elected for their legal financial and other expertise beneficial to the Foundation. Annual contributions to the Foundation from Rotarians and friends of the Foundation are utilized to support grants for charitable and educational purposes, primarily in Eastern California's Inyo County, but also in other areas in need around the world. The Bishop Rotary Foundation also supports the Rotary Foundation of Rotary International. Since July 1, 1998 more than $360,000 has been given by The Bishop Rotary Foundation to charitable programs. In 2009 and 2010, $18,000 was awarded for scholarships for high school seniors, $8,800 was given to families whose homes were destroyed by fire, $8,250 was given to the Haiti earthquake fund and money was given to many other charitable programs in the community.
