“Learning Disabilities (LD) through a Lifetime”
  • 10% of the general population have learning disabilities from mild to severe
  • 80% of those will have reading problems (it’s not that they can’t read but they may find it very difficult or they may not comprehend what they have read)
  • 2 – 3 students with LD will be found in most classrooms
  • Sadly, 1 in 5 students will leave school before graduation
The Learning Disabilities Association believes individuals need to know their strengths and areas of difficulty, they benefit from being able to describe to a friend or employer what they can and cannot do, plus what accommodations would be helpful, like written lists of things to do on the job….many accommodations do not cost.  What is necessary though, is understanding and patience.
