INTERNATIONAL NIGHT MAY 1st 2012

Yes our May 1st meeting had an added flavor with two speakers from International locations that we are considering supporting in our International
scope of Community support.

These locations are as they say World's apart from our day to experiences in Surrey. B.C. 
Our first speaker was Fabian Ricketts From Jamaica

Fabian gave us some insight into the conditions in the Trenchtown area of Kingston. Fabian grew up in Ocho Rios (Spanish for eight Rivers)

vastly different to Trenchtown.His home area is a Tourist resort area. Trenchtown is a run down crime ridden area of Kingston. Highlited in Bob Marleys song Trenchtown Rock. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iakVCvPzcvI&feature=related.

It is like a war zone controlled by Dons. Our prospective project is to support a Reading Centre http://www.trenchtownreadingcentre.com/ that was founded in 1993 to give the children a chance to learn and a way out of the poverty and violence. Fabian said it is very needed that we get behind this project.

Our second speaker was :
Joseph Muchali from Namibia.  Joseph is familiar with the Windhoek area and went to school there
He outlined just like Jamaica there are Wealthy areas and extremely poor areas and as a result of many
Governing countries the Education system has become a real Hodge Podge with some kids having all the
tools and many others with nothing. Our Dictionary project would be a great step forward for many poor students who have nothing this will assist inr learning,  here is a link to add to the details. http://hopepreserves.org/
