Once again we were able to qualify for a Gaming Grant from BC Gaming and now get to distribute these funds to worthy local organizations. Selecting the groups we will support is a difficult process as more worthy organizations are now looking for funding and our portion of the Grants from Gaming get more limited with the stringent qualifications.

On Tuesday May 21st. We presented the first two of this years Grants.

2822 The Royal Westminster Regiment Army Cadet Group. A grant of $4000.00 to provide Canoes,Paddles and LifeJackets for their Watermanship program which will instill water safety and confidence while learning valuable skills. The Cadet group has been in operation over 45 years and provides sound training to our youth currently 65 cadets in the program. Receiving on behalf of the Group was Rick Blythe-Commanding Officer.

Keys Housing and Health Solutions (Previously the South Fraser Community Services). A grant of $5,000.00 to provide part of the funding of the Djaef Mahler Grocery.This is a food bank that provides high nutritional foods to people suffering from HIV/AIDS. Accepting the Grant on behalf of Keys was Monika Verma ,Health Programs Director. She told us how since inception in 1992 they have grown to 19 programs covering two areas of service Health Solutions and Homeless Solutions to disadvantaged people in our community.
