FOOD BANK

Kuldip Adawa - Community Partnership Coordinator with the Surrey Food Bank provided an overview of the FoodBank operation in Surrey.
Some misconceptions are that the food bank is only available to the out of work destitute individuals. However that is not correct.
Is is available to all low income families.It receives no Government funding except for a small amount from the Bingo Gaming funds.
Their big fundraiser is breakfast with the food bank which this year raised $108,000 but this is a small drip in the bucket of the funds required
to operate the food bank so most income is provided by individual and corporate donations.
Other programs they offer ..
Tiny Bundles -for pregnant moms and families with newborns to one year. Providing a food hamper each week including Fresh eggs,milk and baby supplies.
Hampers to the home for shut-ins: Fair start School supplies and Gleaning where food bank volunteers go to gardens where the crops exceed the needs of
the owner and clear the vegetables which are then donated to the food bank.The Food bank has only 6 full time employees everyone else is a volunteer.
