The Rotary club of Surrey took their weekly meeting to Luke 15 House (luke15house.com) on April 17th.

We met “on location” to allow our club members to discover ways to help residents in the recovery program in the home, which has the highest success rate in the Lower Mainland.

The other reason was to encourage the residents of Luke 15 House by allowing them to meet a few Rotarians – a sampling of Rotarians around the world who care for others.  Since Rotarians adhere to the motto or “Service Above Self”, it was an opportunity to plant seeds of goodwill.

During our visit we were served a wonderful meal – prepared by one of the residents – and after a brief explanation of Rotary, four of the residents shared their stories.

We were touched to hear of how, often through a series of bad decisions, their lives spiraled ever downward.  Each of the residents recalled reaching a point of complete helplessness.  It was then that they finally admitted they needed help.

After paying their debt to society, each resident is ready to face challenges ahead of them.  Their path will not be easy, and we stand ready to help in some small way.
