On a holiday back to their home country in South Africa, Andy & Yvonne along with Michael, Andy’s brother , they stopped over at their childhood fishing village, St Helena Bay. On this visit they discovered that a former village shop had been turned into Eiland Huis - The Island House, a care facility home where a man, his severely handicapped daughter and individuals with severe crippling disabilities resided.
Most residents could not speak or feed themselves, some were fed through tubes and/or were blind. Each had their own wheelchair, tailored to fit their bodies and prevent them falling out.

After many discussions over the next two years working to reconcile the Eiland Huis needs with Rotary goals and funding limits, decisions on the scope and funding of the project were finalized. In 2025, many changes have been done including Power Interruption backup batteries and inverter, a new security fence around the rear of the property, air conditioners, and new medical equipment. A training program was also completed.
Donations came from many Rotary clubs including The local Rotary club in South Africa, Melkbos, Rotary Club of Port Moody, Rotary Club of Coquitlam, District 5050 Passport Club, and Rotary Club of Middleton, Nova Scotia.
