George Broderick was our Guest speaker today.
He did a presentation on Foreign Students.
They are not included in our Immigration numbers.
Most are in a 2 year Education program .
In Canada there are over a million students, 52% in Ontario and 20% in BC.
In Canada there are over 1 million Students.
70% apply for Post Graduate work permits.
They live and learn in a new country and they help with Diversity in our population.
The process which is a government approved program of 2 years. Then they can apply for Permanent Residency.
The Government has reduced the number of of international student intake.
We are opening up our programs to YAIL and RYLA.
What is happening?
We are concerned with the numbers of foreign workers at 370,000.
There is a pushback from Canadian’s over this amount.

March 29 - Global Grant to Kenya Connect of 5km walk. -
You are familiar with our club's work with Kenya Connect, a non-profit supporting education in rural Kenya. They have a very active and exciting learning centre in Wamunyu (located about 2 hours east of Nairobi). They do great work promoting reading, health, teacher development, water and sanitation and many other pieces that make for a successful school experience.
Kenya Connect continues as our partner in a Rotary global grant improving water and sanitation to 6 primary schools in Kyaithani (Kitui County).
An important fund raiser for Kenya Connect is their annual 5K walk/run. You do have the option of doing this in Wamunyu, Kenya or in Elkridge, Maryland (just outside of Baltimore.)
We think the "virtual" option might be more convenient. We set up our own run and you still get to participate and get a run Shirt or Hat.
Our 5K walk/run will be Saturday, March 29 at 1PM. We start from the Rocky Point Pier, making our way to Orchard Park and then back to Brewery Row where some of us just might have a beer. Ok. Probably have a beer.
The cost is $40 USD with proceeds going to fund education in the Wamunyu area. Please register online making sure to select the virtual run and to join our Beautiful BC team.

Another happy patient. Oh my goodness Cleone has the same happy smile & big personality that she always has. This photo was taken the first day after her ankle surgery. She says she can move around with a walker for a brief time, but her ankle is happiest 'up' at that point... We look forward to seeing you soon Cleone.
