Guest Speaker Dr Kathleen Ross and Ron from the Coquitlam ClubDr. Kathleen spoke about VTT Global Grant for the medical outreach and education in maternal child health, in Peru
As a member of the Rotary Club of Coquitlam Dr. Ross is working to secure a Rotary Global Grant to fund medical outreach and education in maternal child health in rural Peru
Dr. Ross is past President of the Canadian Medical Association. Based in Coquitlam and New Westminster, BC, Dr. Ross does clinical work in community primary care and obstetrics. She is also a cardiovascular surgical assistant at Royal Columbian Hospital
She had a very compelling talk about her visits to Peru and helping the people in 'very' remote areas of the country up in the mountains and their need for education and health care.
I loved that Kathleen told us about how grateful the Peruvian people are and that in their language there is no word for 'thank you.'
They say : Urpillay Sonqollay which means 'What you have done makes my Heart flutter'. Dr. Kathleen you did just that for all of us. Thank you.

Dan G mentioned that Rotary World Help [RWH] will have loaded container number 477 and this time to
Kenya.
Frank mentioned that Starfish will be starting up at the end of September. The funding from our RIBFEST 50/50 will make a huge difference this year.
How Starfish works: Each week, volunteers fill packs with 2 breakfasts, 2 lunches, 2 dinners, and snacks and then deliver them to local schools for the students to take home on the weekend.
We have a cycle of 6 regular menus and 2 holiday menus, to provide variety in the food being offered. Each menu is child-friendly and easy to prepare.
It costs approximately $600 – $800 to fill a backpack for a student for the full school year (depending on grocery prices in each community).
A huge big Thank you to Peter for organizing the Car Rally and to Steve for hosting the Pot Luck after. A great time was had by all.
