Speaker – Robyn Curtis, Chilliwack Climate Action:
President Susan was very pleased to introduce Robyn Curtis from the Rotary Club of Chilliwack, Chair of the Climate Action Group. I met Robyn at the Rotary District conference last month and her passion and energy for this important cause is so very inspiring and very hopeful.
In 2021, because of an overwhelming response from Rotarians worldwide, the 7th area of focus of Rotary International, “Environment & Climate Change”, was created.
The Rotary Climate Action Group currently has 69 members, 20 Rotary members and 49 community members focusing on climate mitigation. This committee includes a panel of scientists, teachers, technical experts, marketing experts, consultants, and communication specialists. Together they provide education and awareness. Robyn also discussed how taking on this important issue has become a powerful recruitment tool for their club, attracting younger, passionate, and enthusiastic individuals to our Rotary clubs.
Over the past couple years, Robyn has been giving presentations about the CCAG (Chilliwack Climate Action Group) to Rotary clubs and other interested groups. This morning Robyn spoke on how the group was formed, some of the programs that have been created, such as the Rotary Climate Fair (Trade Show - Chilliwack Rotary Climate Fair), and what the group plans on next.
Robyn Curtis has a degree in Biology from UVic and a Commercial Pilots License. She has worked in the aviation industry for the past twenty-three years, in various roles, and now works as a consultant, primarily for airports.
She has been a member of the Rotary Club of Chilliwack since 2018 and has thoroughly enjoyed herself. She is now a Director and Chair of the Climate Change Action Group, which has pretty much become a full-time job.become a full-time job.
Robyn says that her “Why?” for all of her hard work in climate mitigation is her beautiful son Lucca.
