A Musical Tribute to Our Veterans

Baritone Brandon Gibson is steadily building a reputation as a professional classical soloist in the DFW metroplex and surrounding regions. In recent seasons he has been a soloist with The Dallas Bach Society, The Irving Symphony, Voces Intimae, Lovers Lane United Methodist Church, and the Plano Symphony/Plano Civic Chorus, among others. This past season, Brandon performed the bass solos in Lovers Lane UMC's performance of Handel's Messiah, and also interpreted the role of Melchior in LLUMC's January 2018 production of Amahl and the Night Visitors. In the Easter season, Brandon dispatched the bass solos in Mozart’s Requiem. His concert repertoire includes the baritone solos in Orff’s Carmina Burana, Moussorgky’s Songs and Dances of Death, and DuBois’ Seven Last Words of Christ. This Winter, Brandon will return as a soloist with the Dallas Bach Society in their annual Christmas concert that includes works of Bach and Telemann.

Brandon earned his Bachelor of Music degree in Voice at Rice University before proceeding to Southern Methodist University, where he earned his Master of Music in Voice.

Julian Reed apprenticed at the San Francisco Opera in the Merola Program where he was a winner of the Otto Guth Memorial Award for coaching.  As a result, Mr. Reed also toured through twenty-seven states with the Western Opera Theater.

As a conductor, Julian Reed has conducted performances of Il barbiere di Siviglia, La boheme, Carmen, La Cenerentola, La Grand-Duchesse de Gerolstein, The Merry Widow, Madama Butterfly, The Mikado, The Pirates of Penzance, Ruddigore, Rigoletto, La Traviata, and Die ZauberflÓ§te.

At the Dallas Opera, Julian Reed was a long time assistant to Nicola Rescigno, co-founder of the company.  For three of those years, Mr. Reed was an assistant to, and pupil of legendary Chorus Master, Roberto Benaglio.   While in Dallas, Mr. Reed had the opportunity to collaborate with the world’s greatest artists, such as Marilyn Horne, Alfredo Kraus, Renata Scotto, Frederica von Stade, Giuseppe Giacomini, Sesto Bruscantini, Paolo Montarsolo, and many others.

Julian Reed has enjoyed a fulfilling career in a variety of roles in many opera companies over the past thirty years. Mr. Reed has a great body of experience as a Pianist, Vocal Coach, Chorus Master, and Conductor.  He is currently the assistant chorus master at Dallas Opera.

Glen A. Hummel, is currently Principal Trumpet with the Plano and Irving Symphonies. He also performs with the Fort Worth Symphony, several brass ensembles and various chamber groups. Glen received a Bachelor of Music degree from Indiana University and has pursued Masters work at the University of North Texas. While at UNT, Glen played in the One O’clock Lab Band.  His solo appearances include the Plano and Irving Symphonies, Classic Brass, Richland College Jazz Ensemble, the Dixie River Kings and the Imperial Brass. Glen performs regularly with Big Thought, an organization focused on increasing students’ appreciation of the fine arts, as well as being a part of the Plano ISD Symphony visits program.  He currently plays over 200 services annually – everything from symphonic music to jazz to Broadway shows and religious festivals. 

In his free time Glen enjoys soccer and woodworking. Glen and his wife Susan just celebrated their 33rd wedding anniversary. They have two daughters: Molly, a nurse and Anna, a sophomore at La Tourneau University.
