Dr. Shafi is a surgeon, a medical researcher, a community volunteer, and a Councilman in the City of Southlake, TX.

Dr. Shafi trained in surgery, public health, and business management at some of the best institutions in the country including the Johns Hopkins University, the University of Pennsylvania, and Southern Methodist University. He was the Director of trauma surgery program at Parkland Hospital in Dallas where he took care of patients with severe injuries due to car crashes and other accidents. He also served as Director of Research at the Baylor Institute for Rehabilitation where he led research projects related to improving outcomes of patients with traumatic brain injuries. In the past, he has also served on the Governor of Texas’ Trauma and EMS Advisory Committee (GETAC) that advises the state on statewide trauma and EMS systems. In addition, he served on the North Texas Trauma Regional Advisory Committee that coordinates trauma and disaster management through local EMS agencies in the DFW Metropolitan Area. At a national level, Dr. Shafi serves in leadership roles in some of the most prestigious professional societies of surgeons.

Currently, he is in private practice of general surgery in Grapevine. Aside from caring for patients, he is a leading medical researcher with multiple scientific publications and presentations that focus on improving quality of medical care.
