Rotary Club Honored by the Wilmington Chamber of Commerce |
On the evening of July 12th, under the stars in beautiful and historic Banning Park, the Rotary Club of Wilmington was honored as organization of the year by the Wilmington Chamber of Commerce. The Rotary Club was selected for it's long history of service to the community. During the presentation of the award, the Chamber recognized the Rotary Club's commitment to fighting poverty and increasing literacy. Specifically, the Chamber recognized the Club's commitment to provide groceries to 20 of the most neediest families in Wilmington on a monthly basis and recognized our Holiday Feast Program which feeds over 800 people from the Wilmington community on Christmas Eve. Additionally, they recognized our commitment to improving literacy by working with our local schools and recognized Rotary's Wide World of Books which was led by our own PDG Ingo Werk. |

July 2008 Poverty Food Program |
On Thursday, July 18th, the Rotary Club of Wilmington distributed groceries to 20 of the most neediest families in Wilmington as part of the Sts. Peter and Paul Poverty program. Once a month, Rotarians distribute groceries to these individuals. For many of these families, they often wonder how they are going to provide meals for the children. The Rotary Club of Wilmington indeed "Made Dreams Real" for these families today. Thank you to Juanita Naranjo for taking the lead this month and doing the shopping and for putting the bags together. THANKS JUANITA!!!! Click Here to See More Pictures |

Fiesta Corazon Del Puerto |
A few years ago, Margie Hernandez ran for Honorary Mayor of Wilmington as Rotary's candidate. Upon election, she decided that she wanted to do something with her found fame and decided to create a Fiesta for Wilmington which is known as the Heart of the Harbor. That being said, "Fiesta Corazon Del Puerto" was born.
This weekend will be the 4th Annual Fiesta and it will be held at Bayview Field located at Harry Bridges Blvd. and Neptune Avenue. As always, we will have a booth at the Fiesta so that we may share our story on how we, as an organization, "Make Dreams Real." If you have not yet signed up tp volunteer at the Rotary Booth, please contact President Sergio at sergioc@ek-ek.com to sign up. There will be GREAT entertainment all weekend and it promised to be a lot of fun. Remember, we are only in week 2 of the new Rotary year. If you have missed a meeting, you can still have perfect attendance by making up at the Fiesta! How better to make up while listening to great entertainment and doing some good work while doing it. Kudos to Margie and the Fiesta Committee for a job well done!!! |
