Thank you to everyone that came out and enjoyed the 25th annual duck drop on Sunday! A huge thank you to everyone that helped make it a success especially Mackenzie Search and Rescue, the District of Mackenzie, the Co-op and many more!

Festival of Trees starts Saturday November 28th. Please come out and place bids on your favourite trees!! The final night is Friday December 4th so come to the Multi purpose room at the rec center at 7pm to see who wins the trees! 
Ladies night is November 27th 7-10pm at the curling rink. Tickets are still available at the Lotto booth. Come out with your girlfriends and have a fabulous night. No tickets will be sold at the door. 
Christmas Bingo will be held December 1st at the Legion. Doors open at 6:30pm. Lots of fun and prizes to be won!!
 
This is a fabulous kick off to the holiday season!

District Governor John Anderson Posted on Aug 21, 2015
The Rotary Club of Mackenzie was proud to receive a visit from the latest District Governor John Anderson. While in town he inducted our latest member, Jami McDonald and spoke to our club about the effects Rotary has internationally and how we can be a part of the change. Thank you to Ken, Gord and John's wife Claire for accompanying him on the trip here.
Below is a short biography on John.
 
 

The District 5040 Nominating Committee has selected John Anderson as nominee for the position of Rotary District 5040 Governor for the year 2015-2016.

John has been a Rotarian for 18 years and is currently a member of the Rotary Club of Tsawwassen. John was a member of the Rotary Club West Vancouver from 1990 to 2002, where he served as President 1998/99. 

As well as holding many positions in his Rotary clubs, John is currently a member of the District 5040 Foundation Committee and has held the position of District Scholarship Chair for the past two Rotary years. He is also the current counselor for our Global Student and served as Ambassadorial Scholar Counselor in 2010/11. John has also served as a member on the District Youth Committee

John is retired after many years working in the public school system, most recently as the Superintendent of Schools Delta. John is married to Claire and they have 4 grown children.

What's RYLA? 
 
Rotary Youth Leadership Awards (RYLA) is an intensive training program for community youth leaders. Young people chosen for their leadership potential attend an all-expenses-paid seminar to discuss leadership skills and to hone those skills through practice.
 
Purpose of RYLA
 
·         Demonstrate Rotary's respect and concern for youth.
·         Provide an effective training experience for selected youth and potential leaders.
·         Encourage leadership of youth by youth.
·         Recognize publicly young people who are rendering service to their communities.
 
Value of RYLA
 
·         Enables every Rotary Club to acknowledge service to the community of two or more young people annually.
·         Enthuses young leaders and provides them with enhanced leadership techniques.
·         Exposes a large number of young people, their families and their peer groups, to Rotary ideals of Service.
·         Is a complimentary program to other Rotary youth activities and has been instrumental in the formation of Rotaract clubs.

We are "This Close" to ending Polio

After 25 years of hard work, Rotary and its partners are on the brink of eradicating this tenacious disease.

 As of January 17, 2012, Rotary Clubs worldwide has successfully raised more than US$202.6 million to match $355 million in challenge grants received from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. 

All funds have been earmarked to support polio immunization activities in affected countries where the vaccine-preventable disease continues to paralyze children.

In recognition of Rotary’s great work, and to inspire Rotarians in the future, the Gates foundation is committing an additional $50 million (not a challenge grant) to extend our partnership.

Our achievement is just one more milestone in our journey to eradicate polio. Most importantly, our ultimate goal is the certification of the eradication of polio. We are "This Close" to ending Polio, please help us and donate now

Whether we’re helping to eradicate polio in Pakistan or providing clean water to schools in Mozambique, our work is funded by three sources — our members, outside donors, and market investments. This funding is vital to the lasting change we’re creating in communities all over the world.
WE ARE RESPONSIBLE LEADERS
Responsible leadership means being both efficient and trustworthy with our donations. We’re committed to making the most out of every dollar we receive — that’s why we use nearly 90% of our funding for program expenses.
WHAT WE DO WITH OUR DONATIONS
Each year, gifts to The Rotary Foundation fund thousands of projects around the globe. Here are a few examples:
$76 million spent on fighting polio in the last three countries where it has never been stopped — Afghanistan, Pakistan, and Nigeria — and in others that remain at risk
$126,000 spent to provide professional development for educators and improve literacy skills in rural Thailand
$72,000 spent to improve sustainable farming practices in Cameroon

Rotary gives to Girl Guides Posted by LDS on Jun 20, 2014
The Rotary Club of Mackenzie gave the Local Girl Guides $500 on June 20th 2014 for a select few girls to attend a camp in Enderby BC in July 2014. The girls have been asked to create a power point of their adventures and come to a meeting when they return to show us all the fun they had! You can check out the camp at the link below.
