David Hadley led the flag salute and for his thought of the day, he quoted his father, Greg Hadley, who said, “I never met a person who was not superior to me in some way.”
 
President Cedric Tuck-Sherman welcomed guests James Kennedy and his son, Alex Tuck-Sherman, as well as Kathleen Terry’s guest, Val Pagett.
 
President Cedric then brought up Belgium National Day and all the attributes known for that country, including beer and chocolate.
 
He thanked members who attended the Concerts in the Park last Sunday and then
showed Rotarians in the Wild including Charlie Steinmetz, Matt Peck, Russ Samuels leading Troup 849, and seeing Martha Mansfield at the Hollywood Bowl.
 
Announcements - Deb Robertson and Rita Crabtree-Kampe will participate in the Floating Doctors Panama trip. Kathleen Terry mentioned the Power of Purpose Workshop August 13 from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. – go to bchd.org/purpose to sign up.
 
South Bay Rotary Clubs will host a Summer Social at Playa Hermosa on Tuesday, August 19.
 
President Cedric modeled the new district T-shirt with the Superman emblem on the front that will sell for $25.
 
President Cedric spotlighted the club objective of radical transparency and committed to regular weekly and monthly updates to members. He also announced that the board will hold two “State of the Club” meetings this year on January 5 and June 22. 
 
During his Getting the Work Done Segment, President Cedric announced that all members who responded to the Committee Preference Survey (a majority) will get their first choices. Others will be assigned to a committee. He also announced that the Scholarship Survey at https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/MBRCscholarship is open through July 28, and called for nominations to fill two open Foundation Board Director positions.
 
Two of our scholarship winners, Priscilla Esqueda and Samantha Ehrlich-Fern, gave their thanks and discussed their academic future.  Hagop Tchakerian, former Pacific Palisades Rotary President, discussed the issues confronting his club.
 
Our other special guest was Wade Trimmer, head of the Change Reaction group that is spearheading the Wildfire Direct Giving Fund. His organization has received over ten million dollars to help bring relief to Palisades and Eaton Fire victims. He discussed various ways they are assisting those in need.  Our own Christina Pascucci is participating with this organization,
 
Happy Dollars include donations from Walt Kasha, Rick Farrell, Hagop Tchakerian, John Rhind and David Hadley. Steve Murillo won the wine and gave it to Donn Ennis, and John Van Der Akker won the cash raffle drawing.
