Blue and Red Badge Day

Susan Adams led the flag salute and her thought for the day was “If you see someone without a smile, give them yours.”  
 
Guests were introduced, including a Santa Monica Rotarian. Happy Dollars were shared by John Ranaudo and Dan Saks. The mystery Rotarian was Bryon BosRita Crabtree-Kampe talked about the upcoming Magic in Giving event coming in May and listed the major sponsors for this fundraiser.
 
President John Acker showed pictures of Rotarians in the Wild and issued a red badge to David Hadley and blue badges to Christina Pascucci and Sheena Khanna.
 
Mickey and Larry Johnson spoke about Restoring Hope on Carriacou Island after Hurricane Beryl. Their friend, Susan Valentine, helped the eight-woman Rotary group assist elderly residents with food and water, aiding them in recovering from this disaster. 
 
Mike Jenkins then introduced his friend, Los Angeles County Assessor Jeffrey Prang, as our guest speaker. He gave a presentation filled with facts and issues that his office has handled since 2014.  With 1,400 employees in his group, his office appraises all real estate and personal property business equipment.  Manhattan Beach has 11,155 single family houses, 1,292 rental properties and 492 commercial office buildings. Last year 141 homes were sold in Manhattan Beach at an average price of $3,500,00.
 
He explained ADS 820 for calamity tax relief, Proposition 8 for temporary tax relief and the hazards of Proposition 19, the controversial rule that inherited property that is not for a surviving spouse, is reassessed for anything over one million dollars.  He mentioned the Homeowners Alert Service that is offered by registering at assessor.LAcounty.gov.
 
Jay Harkenrider won the wine, but Dave Harris was not lucky at winning this week’s raffle.
