Project Sustainability

Each recipient school will be provided with enough solar capacity to develop small revenue generating non-profit businesses to pay for the local solar technician, latrine maintenance, and replacement parts. Farach will implement a copy center to generate income from printing and copying, while Zuera will implement a solar cooking station to generate income from baked goods. The villages already have a paid solar pump and well technician and a school cook who are both candidates for the new technical and maintenance roles. All proceeds will go back into the school and technology maintenance. Engineers without Borders and the local Mali RC will partner to assure each solution is sustained, by visiting each site at least annually. The local NGO will visit the sites regularly through out the year. A local solar organization, AfriqPower, will supply the equipment, training, and support as needed. The local Hydraulic company has been supporting the wells and water systems in these villages for a long time and will support any new water distribution system as needed.
