Carlye Rudkin, age 77,  the beloved past president of the Malibu Rotary Club died suddenly on Thursday February 17.  She was a happy normal looking participant at the Malibu Rotary Club Zoom meeting held the day before at noon on Wednesday, February 16.

She and her husband Don had been in Camarillo all week helping their daughter Holly who was recovering from a recent debilitating fall. Wednesday evening Carlye  was experiencing chest pain and shortness of breath----they called 911,  and went to the hospital in Oxnard where a stent was inserted…..Don saw her there Thursday morning and she was doing much better. Shortly  after he left the hospital, Don received a phone call  informing him that Carlye  had suffered a heart attack and died. Don said there had been no indication  that anything was wrong prior to receiving the shocking news.

Carlye had been President of the Malibu Rotary from 2019 to 2021.      During her first year in office Carlye had to deal with major health problems of her husband and the death of their daughter Annie.

Carlye was always there  with a helping hand  and a smile to lend support to all those around her.    Service Above Self were not idle words with her. Even when challenged with family tragedies she always tried to help those around her..  Because Malibu does not have a community hospital  she recommended the Malibu Rotary Club sponsor the Malibu Urgent Care Center. .    She stepped up and saved the Malibu Rotary Club when others thought it was not viable. When membership had dwindled to less than a dozen member she recommended the club try the new Rotary idea of having corporate membership. At the time of her passing the club had a total of 14 active and 9 honorary member, an upward trend due to her energy.    Her passing will be mourned and she will be missed.

Carlye is survived by her husband Don, her daughter Holly and her sister Kay Jones.

A memorial service and reception  held on Sunday, March 27 at Conejo Mountain Funeral Home, 2052 Howard Rd in Camarillo was well attended by family and friends.   She was interred at Conejo Mountain Memorial Park,  joining her daughter Annie, who passed away in 2019 and her parents.
