Kaiser Permanente Hospital is the second largest employer in Downey (surpassed only by Coca Cola), and we heard from two of its top administrators.
When asked what she thought was the most important asset the hospital had to offer, the first speaker said without hesitation, “Our doctors.” Highly qualified and capable in their specialties, the medical staff at Kaiser are all board certified in their areas of expertise.
Kaiser combines three functions in the one entity: a hospital, an insurance plan and community medical care. Our Kaiser facility is the largest in Southern California. Changes are underway on the campus, with the two tall towers coming down and more green space, parks benches and recreational areas planned.
On the business side, another administrator from Kaiser told us that she felt that Kaiser’s biggest contribution to Downey was their commitment to the community.
Kaiser has won awards for its environmental concerns, as well as its outreach programs in health education. Kaiser in Downey cooperates with the Downey YMCA in exploring healthy lifestyles, and provides a children’s dental clinic and health screenings. Kaiser is here to add to Downey’s distinguished medical history.
