District Conference Highlights

Rotarians heard two unusual presentations, each asking for our help and participation.  First, Joe Vasquez, Conference Chair, told us about the District Conference in Santa Barbara May 2-5.  Because of our Downey Club’s special relationship with the incoming Governor, the District urges us to send a large contingent to support said District Governor to-be-Elected-One-More-Time.

  Doug Baker, who first served as president of this Club, already acted ably as District Governor in 2010-11.  But because of the unexpected death of the Governor-Elect, Doug is about to become, for only the sixth time in Rotary history, a double-serving District Governor, this time for the year 2013-114.  And Doug actually volunteered for this job, already knowing what a huge personal effort it calls for.  The District is grateful for the smooth transition Doug has provided.

  There will be a special ceremony on Sunday May 5, to install Doug, and if you can only drive up to the District Conference for one day, this is the one.  Doug will appreciate seeing you there.
