Warren Interact Takes Over

Warren Interact Club commandeered our meeting and put on the entire program for us, including a finemaster, who fined everyone who did not participate in the District Bowling Tournament held in Downey, $10. Likewise, for all those who did not participate in the Arc Walk for Independence.
The officers of the Interact Club proceeded to tell us the projects that had involved them this year: our Club’s Pancake Breakfast to benefit the Downey Family YMCA, and the Arc Walk.
Several thanked our Downey Club for the opportunity to go to RYLA and for sponsoring them, and giving them the opportunity for leadership. Several said how shy they had been, before gaining confidence and poise and becoming comfortable with speaking in public.
Then the Interact Club got down to the real business which brought them here: to auction off their famous home-baked goodies. The first item, a large velvet cake, brought $52 (the auctioneer couldn’t get the price up to an even $60). Then blueberry cupcakes with creamy frosting sold quickly, followed by chocolate chip cookies at $55 and the piece de resistance, a raspberry glazed cake for $60.
As soon as some of these items were bought, the winning Rotarians passed them around the tables to share and they were consumed almost as fast as they were sold. A wine cake wrapped in cellophane and silver ribbons sold for $55, and a chocolate Bundt cake with powdered sugar peaks sold for $75. It was the powdered sugar that did it, admitted buyer Mario Guerra.
The auction provided $392, according to treasurer Paul Mathys, and someone donated $8 more to make it an even $400.
As the meeting closed, one of the seniors said that this had been her first year in Interact, but that this would be just the beginning of giving and volunteering in her life. Every one of the Interacts signed the library book, And Then It’s Spring.
