Takeover Day - OLPH Interact

Our club was called to order by a very well prepared Interact Club’s president, Isabella Rodriguez. Much smaller than the podium but mighty, Isabella, of Our Lady of Perpetual Help School’s Interact Club, led us through the opening ceremonies. Then we walked through the Welcome Song with hand shaking and the occasional hug, enjoying having the meeting room to ourselves for the first time in three weeks.
These Interactors showed us, by means of a calendar, what they have accomplished. In November they sold scented candles and in December, collected scarves and mittens, both to benefit senior citizens. In January there was a toy sale, and in February a sale of valentine cards, to benefit a child they are sponsoring in a school in Uganda.
In March the students at Our Lady School, which runs up through the eighth grade, decorated Easter eggs for seniors, and in April, they helped serve the meal at the Spaghetti Dinner put on by our club’s Darren Dunaway’s Home Services Association.
This last event benefited the day care center in Bell Gardens, for the memory impaired which includes those with Alzheimers, as was described in your Hubbub report for the April 12 meeting. So these school children are tuned in to social problems. We are proud to be their sponsor.
OLPH produced their own Finemaster, who showed a good working knowledge of Rotary history, asking our members questions about the 4 Way Test, when Rotary was founded, and where, and by whom. Many of the school children were eager to answer to questions too, and a forest of little arms waved when Finemaster proposed each topic. They all wore their black club tee shirts with the Rotary wheel on front, the logo printed in yellow and the letters OLPH and “Youth Interact,” and on the back, “Peace Through Service.”
