Downey High Interact Takeover
The Club was presented with a Certificate of appreciation from the Downey Library, for being a major donor to the Library’s Literacy Programs. Our Club supplies the funding for 52 brand new children’s books every year, one for each program meeting we have. Our program speaker is asked to sign the book, which is then donated to the Library in recognition of their appearance with us. Everybody wins.
Downey’s population is 110,000, as of the latest census. But does that make Downey’s rank in state population 1) 27th; b) 53rd; c) 45th; d) 37th? Those of you who were absent, see how hard it was? Answer: 53rd .
Then Interact showed us pictures of their service projects, including our Pancake breakfast for the benefit of the Downey family YMCA. Also on the agenda of Downey High Interact are the Clean-Up with Paramount Interact; the District Picnic; a fundraiser before Christmas to benefit an orphanage; help out at the City’s Pumpkin Patch event on Halloween, held at Apollo park; and a Downey High campus clean-up, which is held every other Wednesday, whether it needs to or not.
Next came the auction of baked goods, there are 4 dates for the Interact Club’s appearance. Having heard our club’s predilection for chocolate, Interact first offered up a chocolate cake with chocolate icing over layered fillings of vanilla and chocolate mouse, topped with chocolate rosettes and cherries.
As if weren’t enough, next were offerings of chocolate cake slices, and then a big pineapple upside-down cake. The big prize was an tall confection with gazed chocolate icing decorated with raspberries and white chocolate shaving curls.
