Club Meeting

A “Club Meeting” is a special event, offering an open forum for suggestions from all the members. President Larry Garces convened one today, calling for ideas for special projects the Club could undertake during this coming year. President Larry would like us to show our presence in Downey in some memorable way.
One idea which President Larry offered was for a Downey Talent Show. Sponsored by Downey Rotary and open to all residents, it could spotlight the multiple facets of Downey. Cost of renting the Downey Theatre could be offset by entry fees, and acts could range from comedians to musicians, dancers and singers.
Ray Brown suggested we have a Community Challenge event, and hold it outdoors. He also suggested a wine-tasting. Jim Reynolds said that for indoor events, we should remember to use Maurice Casaus’s “place” – the Embassy Suites.
On the weekly meeting level, John Lacey reminded us that in the past we had a successful use of Downey Rotary place mats, used on top of the table cloth, especially printed with a multitude of our Club’s achievements. It impressed visitors and also gave us our talking points when we went out in to the community.
Dahlya McDonald thought a Miniature Golf Course contest would be fun, in addition to our big eighteen hole tournament, which is our Club’s major fund raiser. Miniature golf would let more players in and we would draw in a new group of participants.
Club members are encouraged to develop any ideas they might have and present them to President Larry.
