Culver City Rotary Plaza
Culver City Rotary Plaza is an attractive, modern facility of 100 units located in Culver City. Persons meeting HUD low income requirements who are either 62 years and over or mobility impaired and 18 years and over are eligible for residency.
Culver City Rotary Club and Retirement Housing Foundation established Culver City Rotary Plaza, Inc., a California non-profit, to provide needed senior housing. A HUD section 202 loan of $4.7 million was obtained in 1983. The Culver City Redevelopment Agency wrote land cost down $1.2 million and funded balconies and mature landscaping. The building was completed October 2, 1985.
Rotary Plaza is conveniently located near shopping centers, a county library and the Culver City Senior Center. It has a large community room, laundry facilities and operates a van with a lift for accessibility for residents.
Culver City Rotarians constitute a majority of the Board of Directors, headed by Lyn Caron, President and is responsible for continuing operation of the facility. Management is provided by Foundation Property Management, affiliated with Retirement Housing Foundation.
Culver City Rotarian Eddie Martinez (deceased), an artist and craftsman, created a beautiful, large mosaic Rotary Wheel in the entryway of the facility.
The fountain in the courtyard was donated by a Culver City Rotarian and is dedicated to William Vickrey, President of Culver City Rotary Plaza, Inc. from its inception until his death in 2002.
In 1986, M.A.T. Caparas, Rotary International President 1986-1987 was a guest at Rotary Plaza. Bhichai Rattakul, RI President 2002-2003 attended a meeting of Culver City Rotary at Rotary Plaza in 2002.
