Captain Kangaroo appeared at our meeting again. At 12:15 the meeting got started with Ed Little giving us the Invocation and Ernie Garza leading us in the flag salute. "God Bless America" was led by Craig Ferre.

After a very short break Cy Pierce was asked to introduce our visiting Rotarians and since there were none, Cy's job was pretty easy. There were guests of Rotarians, however, and Cy introduced his guests - Christina Fields and Ron Foster. Buffy Francuz brought her husband Joe along and Carmen Portnoy introduced Stacy (sorry I did not catch the last name.) The Welcome Song was led by a man who normally wears pajamas to work - Keith Jones.

Lots of announcements were next on the agenda. Carmela Raack gave us some District announcements in Linda Black's absence and she reminded us that this Saturday there is a Leadership Training Seminar and that on July 25 there is a Youth Meeting. See "Boom Boom" for more details. Captain K announced that the Fishing Trip is at Bishop Creek, August 13 -15. The Captain also reminded us that the Club Assembly is at Steve Davidson's house on Sunday, July 26, BYOBC (bring your own beach chair). Bruce Jagger reminded us to place our food order at the front table when you arrive at the meeting. Darlene Kiyan let us know that the eatery, Rush Street on Culver Blvd., is having a fundraiser for the YMCA (No Bill, not the song - don't get too excited) on Tuesday July 21. Chris King, sitting at the Losers Table, announced that Ecuador 2010 is coming. It is an International District Project - see Chris for more info. Yours truly announced that Playa Sunrise is having a Pancake Breakfast this Saturday at the new fire station in Westchester. Kathy Hayworth then came up and gave Bill a whole bag of gavels that she found in England. Let's see how long Bill can keep those!

Bill's next line of business was to extract some money from a few members and he started with Dannie Cavanaugh. It seems that Dannie's last name is pretty popular in Ireland and for that he was fined $40. Next on the hit list was PP Kathy Haworth and she was fined $40 because the gavel pen that she just gave to Bill didn't work. Ron Coombs and Lyn Caron got fined $40 for just showing up!! Buffy Francuz was fined $4.99 for something that I did not catch and many of us were also fined $4.99 for not wearing a badge and/or a pin...that Captain may have a kind face but he is tough.

Our program, introduced by our President and by Tim Messmer, was Alan Kirstein and he gave us an entertaining and informative program on how to avoid a ticket.

Have a great week Rotarians!
